Ancestral Patterns 2023

Ancestral Patterns is a body of work exploring familial connections in time and place. As the screenwriter and actor John Huston says, ‘You walk through a series of arches, so to speak, and then, presently, at the end of a corridor, a door opens and you see backward through time, and you feel the flow of time, and realize you are only part of a great nameless procession’. With an ancestor detective in the family, we have been learning about the trials, tribulations, and successes of our forebearers. This has created a complex web of blood lineages, patterns that can be hidden just below the surface. These works honour the blessings and gifts that have been passed down.
