Annie Long is a visual artist with ceramic and mixed media sculpture at the heart of her practice while concurrently painting in oils.
Annie grew up in Sydney, Australia. While drawing and painting, she studied and worked in the areas of health and psychology. She spent three years in Europe, mainly Italy and Spain continuing to develop her art practice through private tuition. Since completing an Advanced Diploma in Ceramics in 2002 on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, she has concentrated on sculpture and started exhibiting professionally. After moving to the Northern Rivers, NSW in 2011, she completed a degree in Visual Arts (3D) with Honours in 2016 at Southern Cross University, expanding her art practice to explore multimedia sculptures and installations while concurrently painting in oils. Her honours project was in independent curating instigating the Murwillumbah Art Trail in 2015-17, now a bi-annual event. Travel and work in international language education have informed recurrent themes of the journey (both inner and outer), the nomad and the migrant. In recent years, exploration into local stories and the local environment have become an increasing inspiration for her art practice. Her artworks serve as a catalyst for dialogue, encouraging viewers to connect with the environment, nature, and the stories that shape the world around them. She has exhibited in both solo and group shows in Australia as well as Japan and Italy. In 2019, she undertook a residency at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute, Jingdezhen, PR China and was a curator of Southern Cross University’s 25 Years 25 Artists retrospective exhibition.
